Comments: Sir: you need more information about the ASD's that provided ATC in vietnam. Mine was a 16 man detachment with controllers, generator repair, avionics and one clerk. One officer (MAJ). All the ASD's had at least this many folks. We were attached to the host unit in most places for other support. I was assigned to the 1st Avn Bde, but attached to the 1st Cav at Quan Loi 322nd ASD.

Comments: Wow so much I have not seen about helicopters in Vietnam. The battle and operations damage pictures are fascinating. It shows how the machines were really used. I love the inverted cobra pics. This site is a wonderful tribute to the people who served. My father was in the 101st airborne in 1962 to 1965. He was not sent to Vietnam. He was discharged 2 weeks before troops from 101st went to Vietnam. I will show this to him. He is proud to have served during this time and of the jobs all of the vets did in the Vietnam war.My best friends dad served on the USS Enterprise in 68, 69, he will love this.

Comments: I am looking for information and hopefully photos of my late husband, Jerry Stripling, while he was in Vietnam 67-69. Part of that time he was a pilot with the 162nd AHC, and also served as a maintenance officer. We have three children (now grown) who would cherish photos of him from that time. We have only two, one from flight school at Ft Wolters, and one from Hawaii. When he was alive he would not talk much about Vietnam. I appreciate any assistance, would even try a government source if I knew where to start.
Comments: An update to my recent search for information: it turns out my veteran friend misremembered the name "Loach" as "Lotus." Of course, the Loach is well documented here as unofficial nickname the OH-6 Cayuse. Thanks to the information and images here, this veteran is able to accurately remember the helicopter he flew over 40 years ago.
