I graduated with WORWAC 66-7 (Yellow Hats) in July 1966. I was initially assigned to the 1st AIR CAV and arrived in Pleiku only to be told that all orders were cancelled and that we were to be transferred to Saigon the next day and would be re-assigned by a new Aviation Officer at USARV HQS. A week after arriving in Saigon I finally got my new orders to HQS IIFFV at Long Binh. I stayed there my whole tour and was designated as the Air Operations Officer for the Aviation Detachment supporting the HQS. We had 12 UH-1 aircraft. I accumulated over 1,500 hours that year. I came back to Fort Rucker and completed the MOI VFR and IFR Instructors Course and was assigned to the Rotary-Wing Qualification Course. I came off active to return to college but stayed in the Army reserve and finished as a Major in Military Intelligence. I later worked with the Central Intelligence Agency in the Directorate of Operations with the Special Operations Group. I am now semi-retired living in Pembroke Pines, FL.

My name is Paul Woodby, I arrived in Soc Trang, Vietnam in Dec.1967. Served with Pathfinder unit at Soc Trang for six months. Volunteered to be door gunner on gunship with "Viking Gunship Platoon" under 121st Avn.Bat. at Soc Trang from June 1968 to June 69. I cannot find any info on the Pathfinder unit I served with at Soc Trang. Does anyone remember our unit, and black baseball hats we wore? I hve much info on Vikings, however, nothing on the Pathfinder unit I served with. Was with them during Tet Ofensive. Any help and info would be appreicated.
Tks,
Paul

Good to see the updates still coming, good work, John...some interesting stuff.

Have found a few interesting war-time approaches to airports on U-tube (spelled to fool the link defeater) for Phu Bai, 1967 and Lai Khe...in COLOR. Look for videos by poster 'borntowander' to view these and others.

Best to all for the holiday season. No Bob Hope this year :!cry:
