Did you name your helicopter in Vietnam? Searching for individualized "names" (e.g. Iron Butterfly, Cheap Thrills, etc) that were painted on in-country Army copters, 1962-73. Help me document this often overlooked chapter of our aviation history. Search your in-country photo/slide collections for personalized copter nose art & names. Search your memory & memoirs or query a buddy for his. Thank you gentlemen. Respectfully yours, John Brennan, former SP5, 114 AHC, 1970-71, Vinh Long AAF, Mekong Delta

Great website!! After flight school, I attended the amed course at Ft. Sam- then off to join the 571st at Haskins- just outside of Da Nang. Capt. Steven Arnt was the CO at that time. Thank you for taking the time and effort to tell folks what it was like!!

Served with the 125ATC as an airplane mechanic August1965 to August1966. Was at Tent city B Tan son nhut through August then DaNang approx. Sept. to Nov '65. In November was sent to Cam Ranh to assume duties of mechanic/crewchief on unit's U6 Beaver. At first we operated out of the short Army runway by the docks area. The 125th ATC was quartered up on a high sand hill east of the air force base.We had trailers with radios etc for flight following up there and we had a unit of Hawk missiles nearby. A few months later we got a place at the air force base where we could keep the airplane and it was a shorter drive from our tents up at the hill.I got to fly a lot in the co-pilot seat mostly with CWO Mr. Goodwin. He taught me how to fly the U6 and had me keep a log of my flying hours and put me in for crewchief wings. I was at CamRanh the rest of my time and left in August 1966. Lots of memories. would like to hear from Mr. Goodwin and anyone else who was there at that time. Also if anyone knows what happened to the airplane I don,t remember the tail number and I,ve lost most of my photos.Thank you for this site and Thank you for your service.

My first tour I spent three months in 1st Infantry Division as a grunt , remainder of my tour was with 2/34th Armor. Like everyone else I loved the sound of the rotor blades 'whop, whopping, above us and decided to pull a second tour as a DoorGunner. I was assigned to the 173rd AHC at Lai Khe. Even though it was dangerous, I loved flying and never regretted transferring to Aviation. When the call for help came out, we never hesitated to answer the call. Our pilots were the best in the world and the majority of our gunners were former infantry, with the worlds best trained Crew chiefs. Even today, when I hear rotors overhead, I can't help but look up and remember my Nam brothers.
