Comments: The picture of the crew chief standing on the rocket pod firing the m60 is me. It was in the Feb. 1966 issue of popular Science magazine with my name and where I lived. It was a set up photo a huey landed near me while was working on my ship. We were the first ship in that row of our gunships, right near the Vietnamese guard post was, on the taxi way to get out of our ramp to take off. The photo was taken at Bear Cat. The photo ship took pictures on the right side than came around to the left side, I picked a tree and started firing, On it. I was firing to the rear by the time the photo was taken.

Comments: My dad was at Camp Evans I believe 69-71. He was a helicopter Repairman with C Btry, 4th Battalion, 77th Artillary, I know he used to have pictures of the same helicopter crash. I copied them to show him. He lost all his Vietnam memorabilia in a house fire. Just trying to help him recover some of his memories. Thank you for sharing. This was so helpful.

Comments: Hello Ron Cabral here I was a Captain at the time in 1971 and left around March 72. I was WO1 Peter Byrne roomate he flew the nightship. I was also the Mess Officer and we won Best Mess Vietnam that year beating out even the General's mess in Saigon. We competed in Best Mess S.E. Asia Command but didn't win. Also was scratched from flying by Cpt Vehling the day the chopper crashed with Wo2 Eddy, Mantooth and Tawney our Door Gunner and Crew Chief. It seemed we had a bjig party for that evening and Cpt Vehling had come to me and said to stay down and preppare for that night's celebration. I was VERY close to our EM in the platoon especially JENNINGS from Ohio. Did get to talk to him only once. Would like to keep in contact with the Copperheads and Vultures Ron Cabral
