Was in the 170th Assualt, Bikinis and Bucaneers from May 1970 until the unit was deactivated early 1971!
This company received the Presidental Unit Citation for Valor for duties preformed against the north Vietnam from Kontum,VN on search and destroy missions in Loas! We were located on the HoChiMen trail coming out of Laos the NVA used to supply other NVA in the southern parts of SVN!We were deactivated because we only had around 120 men and the NVA was preparing to overrun our unit with two regiments of north vietnamese regulars. Finished my tour in Khe Sahn on the LamSahn 217 mission into Laos...all great men!

My step-dad was Carl B Terry from Foley Alabama. He was a CW2 UH-1C pilot in Company D ,101 Assault Helicopter Battalion, 101 Airborne Division. He received the DFC for heroism on August 4, 1968 flying a combat mission in support of Operation Sumerset Plain after his team leader took fire, was wounded, and had to leave the A Shau valley around 11:30am that day.
My dad passed in 1991. I was just looking for more information about what happened that day. CB remained an air taxi pilot after Vietnam, and managed the Enterprise Airport, just outside of Fort Rucker AL for nearly 10 years. He didn’t talk about the war very often. Thank you for your webpage.

I was with the D/17 from April 1972 to January 2, 1973. I was the Tech Supply officer and Maintenance officer at the unit. I flew High bird and Low Bird when needed. I also flew with Dean in the Cobra when a bullet catcher was needed. Peter Hoban was the head Maintenance Officer. Me and Veleski were under him. I don't know if anyone remembers me any more.
