Comments: In January 1966 I, along with, 24 Other USAF Security Police were transferred to Tra Noc (Binh Thuy) AB near Can Tho Field. Binh Thuy was a sand pit, REALLY as it was piles of Sand, A Sand Pumping Barge, and no security. Accross the Hau Giang River was an enemy Init known as the Tay Do Battallion VC Regional Combat Force. There was no Aircraft and nothing for the assigned security force to guard. Twenty-Three of the men were assigned to the 377th at Saigon. Two of us with arial gunnery experience were held back, one to the 13th AVBN at Can Tho Field, and one to a satellite unit at Soc Trang. I was sent by my commander to the 13th to be utilized as a door gunner until recalled. As far as I know, I was one of the only USAF personnel to fly as a DG in that time period. I can find nothing on this period (Nov 65 thru Dec 67. The only info I can find is that there were two incidents almost similar, when 13th assets were used to assist the SVA 21st Division in combat operations. The first was 19 February 1966 on the Bassac River near the confluence of the Hau Giang River. The second was a battle of the SVA and the VC Tay Do Regiment in the U-Minh Forrest area utiizing HU1B 13th AVBN assetts. I know this because our ship was a participant resulting in Purple Heart #1. I need help sorting out this part of my life and filling in blanks. Help if you can. Thank You.

Comments: Hello. I like this site regarding the 4/77th. I was a member of the late version of the 4/77th B around 775/76 to 77. Ft. Campbell started up the unit again I guess, around this time from different units stationed at Ft. Campbell. 1 Warrant Officer and myself had come over from HHC 2nd Brigade. Being the HHC was an infantry unit and we were helicopter people, we couldn't WAIT to get over to a real Ariel unit and this worked out just fine.
I suppose I don't really fit in with the orig 4/77th ARA units, but I was a part of a great and honored unit and hope none get offended my posting this.
