Would love to be able to find someone that served with Danny Wayne Cargil and it would have been in 1969. Believe he was a mechanic. On roster they have his name as Danny N Cargil. Was a precious friend and he passed away Jan 2 2017 from a heart attack. Back when every 19 yr old wanted a 1Y or 4F he was one of the lucky ones to be 1Y but flushed it down the commode and joined with my brother on the Buddy Plan. They were best friends thru high school. My brother was KIA April 12 1968. Danny Told me not to long before he passed that there was not a day that he didn't think about my brother. He was a precious soul

Been searching for pictures of this site, but I had not been able to find one. I was with the 540th on the SS Eltinge, a troop career when with disembarked off Camh Rhan Bay in September 1965. A 10,000 troop career, we almost didn't make it as the ship was caught in a Typhoon and broke several of it's propeller screws. We listed in the water during the typhoon and frogmen were not able to repair the ship until the typhoon blew itself away. In the mean time, most of the men and women on the ship were sea sick, couldn't eat and the toilets over flowed... It was a mess. We were almost glag when we arrived in Guam (Headquarters for the Navy's Atlantic fleet. They repaired the Eltinge's propeller screws and in the mean time, they gave liberty to everyone who wanted it and most everyone got drunk and came back in mixed uniforms... we were in Army-Navy attire as the sailors in Guam wouldn't hear of us paying for our own beer. A week later we reached Camh Ranh Bay in Vietnam and disembarked in those little troop careers like the ones used during the Allie Invasion of Germany (The Longest DaY). The Marines would have been proud!!!
We were then trucked to Nha Trang and later to Qoui Nhon. We spent holloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years (TET). My ETS was in May of 1966 and I happily made it home to watch the remainder of the war on TV... they offered me an E-6 if I re-upped but I declined. I missed hamburgers and french frys too much!! Have a nice day. :o
