"F Troop, 17th Cav was the recon element for the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. The Troop was formed in Fort Devan’s Massachusetts in October 1965. We were a ground Cav with jeeps, and like the 196th, we were considered as Airmobile. We took basic in Devan’s, AIT at Camp Drum, New York, and additional training at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod. We shipped (yes by boat) to Vietnam in July 1966, arriving in Vietnam August 1966." - Bob Janicek
