This is a Shot of a CH-47 from A Company 159th Avn Bn, note the red diamond on the rotar cowling. This picture was taken in the spring of '69 while the Division (101) was supporting the Marines and operating out of LZ Vandergriff.

Photo taken in October, 1969 at Phu Bai, Vietnam on my second tour a few months after my 22 birthday. The puppy disappeared a few days after this picture was taken and a week or so later I found his hide nailed up on the back of the wash-house/shower where our hooch maids did our laundry. I assumed that they ate him. It is scary how young we looked back then. No wonder those crusty old World War Two and Korean War NCO's gave me funny looks when they got on my Chinook.

A CH-47 lifting a CH-47 - The white triangle on belly is markings for B Co 159th. This may be the only time a 47 lifted another one. The aircraft had been damaged from a 122 rocket that impacted the B 159 ramp and needed to reposition so It could be moved into the hanger for repairs. The hanger was built in a location that any aircraft was required to fly in and fly out to use the hanger, ground handling was not possible because of terrain. Additional teardown after moving to hanger revealed depot repairs to airframe were required, it was moved south by a 54.
