282nd Assault Helicopter Company - "Black Cats, Alley Cats"

Click here to visit the 282nd AHC

"H" model Huey #67-17463 That's probably an F-58 LRP team 101st ABN. on board, so it must have been assigned to 282 AHC at the time. The 282 or D 1/1 never flew for L Company.

Unit sign for the 282nd AHC taken at Danang, 26 November, 1971. Even though I was then attached to the 282nd, I was still wearing my 7/1 Cav patch on the left shirt pocket. Thats the 1st Avn. Brigade patch on my left shoulder.

A veteran from the 282 AHC sent me a mock up of an original card he had on the back of his armoured seat. The crew chief told him when someone was reading it, from Pvt to general, no-one ever disputed it.

was a door gunner and crew chief with the Black Cats. My tour in VN was from April 70 thru March 71. I was wounded once in a mortar attack at LZ Brick just south west of Phu Bai', Also the ship I was on in Laos (Feb 8 1971) was shot up pretty good during Lam San 719. In some of the pictures you can see a convoy of trucks on RT. 9 toward Khe Sanh and Tchepone Laos. That is the scarcest I ever was on my tour. I saw a Cobra blown out of the sky with radar 37mm AA fire. I saw gray smoke and the rotor head spin off like a top. I will always remember the high pitch beeps of the radar and our pilots dropping the collective to get on top of the trees or below in some cases. I never did like the ARVINS but they never had a chance in Laos.
